Sweetshop Blog Hop

Welcome to Scrappin' Sista and the CookingWithCricut.com Sweetshop Blog Hop! If you’ve never enjoyed a blog hop before, it’s where you ‘hop’ between blogs following a chain of links, with each blog in the chain posting something exciting for the event! There will even be some great blog candy (giveaways) to win along the way! More on that in a moment!

If you've come from visiting Cathie at Creative Cutter Room, you're in the right place! If you've just happened across my blog and would like to play along with our fun hop, you can go to CookingWithCricut.com and start at the beginning. Go HERE.

With Valentine’s Day just a few days away we are sharing some wonderful ideas and inspiration for your viewing and crafting pleasure! Each Design Team member will be featuring an original project each day (Saturday & Sunday) made especially for this hop. Make sure to check out each DT member's blog and collect the special letter there. There will be prizes along the way at our DT members' blogs, AND there will be some nice PRIZES with a few different ways to win at CookingWithCricut.com!

I created two different projects for your viewing pleasure today.  The first is an altered candy box.  I didn't like how it turned out but my 6 year old son did the "directing" when I colored it and my 9 year old daughter who is SUPER critical approved it!  So, I said, NO STRESSING, go with it.

So, as you can see in this first picture, you can see the items that I used to complete this project.  From this point, I applied Helmar's 450 glue to the top of the candy box and spread it around QUICKLY with a foam brush. I laid the box on the patterned paper and used a knife to cut around the box.

Then I colored the digi, with my son's help of course, and fussy cut around it.  This is mounted on the box using pop dots.  I really think it needs something else on the outside but I have a few days to figure it out.

My last project for today is a treat/favor box that I cut using the Wedding Cartridge for my Mom.  She's the President of the Council on Aging in her county (I'm so proud of her) and she wanted something special for their gathering on Monday.  After making the pillow box and before assembling it, I embossed it with COA using white ink and detail white embossing powder.  She loves them though they are very simple.

On my blog, I'm offering the Swirly Heart Frame, Border, Corner Flourish and Heart Set (cutting file only).  To be eligible, leave a comment with a way to reach you on both today's post and tomorrow's post.  I will check. In your comment today, if you have a suggestion on a way that I can improve the candy box design, comment separately for an extra entry. You will have until Sunday at Midnight to comment.  At that time, commenting will be closed.  Be sure to include a way to contact you.  If I don't hear from you, I'd love to contact you but I'm not going to hunt you down.  LOL!!!

Here is the “secret” letter you need to collect to be eligible for a prize package at CookingWithCricut.com. "H"

Now it's your turn! Let’s see your sweet Valentine projects. Be sure to include a Cricut or other die cut machine cut on your project and link it up at CookingWithCricut.com. The Design Team will pick their three favorites and one lucky sweetheart will be chosen randomly to win one of the six prize packages being offered in this hop.

Next stop... Dalis at Stamper Girl. Go see what she has in store for you today.

And don’t forget, when you're done, make sure to head back to CookingWithCricut.com and get entered to win one of SIX prize packages! Here’s how:

1. Link your sweet Valentine project and be one of the top three chosen by our Chefs.
2. Link your project and be the randomly drawn winner.
3. Collect all the letters and unscramble our “secret” phrase correctly and leave it in the special comment section on CookingWithCricut.com.
4. Or just leave a comment at CookingWithCricut.com and let us know how you liked our Sweetshop Blog Hop.

Hi I love how you let your kids help you with your crafting and I love the colors on the candy box that your son picked out. If you wanted to dress it up a little you could add some lace, maybe cut out sections of a paper dolly or even let your son make a folded snowflake cut out (lace like)..add a little glitter and you have sparkle!!!!!

The candy box came out great - you've got a talented team. And the pillow boxes for your Mom may be somewhat simple but elegant - she'll be proud to brag that you made them!

I'm thinking a braided trim or pompom trim would be a nice finishing touch on your candy box. Just sayin'...

Beautiful projects.
I like the box and since your children helped you and they approved it, I think it will be better to leave it like that... I know it is not easy when you are used to do things more "finished", but sometimes we should give that kind of confidence to our children, and it is a nice box as it is.
Hugs,
Vivi

Love the altered candy box. What about making some kind of border or frame around the edge. I'm thinking either edge with a gold metallic paint marker or a border of bling or tiny hearts.

Scrappin Melissa said...

meant to say I like the embossing on the pillow treatbox too. I'm sure your mom will love them.

My 2nd post regarding the candy box. I think some white or ivory pearls would look lovely with some red or black lace trim or even a beautiful ivory or red fleurette or flower with a pearl center.

The candy box is so cute! You don't want to add too much and cover that awesome paper so how about a ribbon bow or even ruffle the ribbon around the edges?
